River Kwai Village Hotel - If you go on their website ( River Kwai Village Hotel Kanchanaburi), you will see a large building on the banks of the river with nothing too special to distinguish it from other hotels, however when you arrive there you will find a great hotel right on the banks of the River Kwai, with two large pools, beautiful landscaping, statues which came from Chiang Mai and an orchestra of cicadas (or some such music making insect). You can wander around the grounds forever admiring the waterfalls, beautiful paths and flowers. I do not know what the other rooms look like but I am sure that they are very nice, but we had the most amazing night which I would recommend to anyone who loves beauty, adventure and nature. We booked rooms on the raft – there are 20 or more bungalows in Thai style which are literally ON the River Kwaii. These have just been COMPLETELY RENOVATED recently with tall beautiful teekwood ceilings, luxurious bathroom, spacious room and piece de resistance – a private balcony separated from the other rooms by a hedge of flowers and other greenery. Although you can hear the river rushing under while you are in the room, when you walk out on the balcony you realize that the River Kwaii is right under you. I did not expect it to be so rapidly flowing and that added to the excitement and the view. Long boats are floating right past your windows and when you wake up in the morning and walk out on the balcony you can see the sun rising over the river and hear the monkeys howling in the jungle. I do not know how much these rooms cost since we got a very good discount due to our Thail friend's friendship with the owner, but no matter what the cost (and I believe it is about $110 US – about 4,000 Bhat) do yourself a favor and spend one night on the raft. You will never forget it. One caution though, if you have trouble managing the stairs, this is not for you since the hotel is on the steep bank of the river and the raft rooms are on the water. In that case I would suggest staying in a room in the main hotel facing the river. The food was also excellent. They can also arrange a trip to Hellfire Pass (a MUST) and a long boat trip up the river to the elephant camp. I would recooment this hotel very highly.

Great value for money. We stayed 3 nights at the River Kwai Village hotel. We booked the standard rooms on line. Very good. 1150 bht per night with breakfast for standard room. We arrived 1 day early so it was good to compare prices with hotel (1750) The rooms where very big, the older rooms for sure on the property but great fro the price. One large double & 1 single, which was great for us as we have a 4 yr old.
Like many of the other reports mention, the pool with the slide is magic, there is also a smaller pool as well which is lovely. The selling piont of the property is the beautiful soroundings with palms, and junglen through out the whole property which is situated approx 60kms from Kanchanaburi, on the Kwai Noi (river Kwai) I picked this property as it is only 9km from Hellfire pass, as we where there for Anzac Day Dawn Service.
The River Raft Rooms like great, we went through them for a look. Beautiful polished timber, and have there own balconys. I dont think there would be a great issue with mosquito aas the river was flowing at a rappid rate. The River raft rooms though are a little pricey i think. 4000bht (but negotible) I know i could have booked one any other time through the above on line travel that i mentioned for around 3200 bht (other than anzac day)
The Royal wing is the next step up from our standard rooms and below the raft rooms, we never got to see inside these, friends of mine stay in these and they reccomend them.
Breakfast is quite good , again for the price, though the buffett at night rates at (OK) for 250bht though i believe this too is good value for money, but does not change from night to night (which is a let down) You can oder off the menu as well.
The Jungle Pub is your only form of entertainment at the hotel, but thats cool. If your after entertainment go to Kanchanburi township.
Overall, great value for money. We will be back.

What an amazing experience, sleeping in a raft room in the middle of a very fast flowing river, it cannot be beaten. The rooms were excellent, I was expecting something quite basic when staying on a raft but these are beautiful made of solid hardwood with air conditioning, showers and TV. Each room has its own terrace area surrounded by flower boxes, the river running right past and underneath you and the jungle covered far river bank opposite. The Pools are great if a bit of a exploration to find them, don't stop at the first one keep going and you'll find a huge one with slide and waterfalls surrounded by jungle, we had it to ourselves everytime we went there.
The only let down is the food is not great, we were booked on a fixed 3 night deal and so got the fixed menu which although very nice is a bit samey after the first two days. The desert was a slice of watermellon and a slice of pineaple every time, very dull.

We stayed at the River Kwai Village Hotel for 5 nights over new year 2008. The hotel is clean but with pretty basic amenities for the price. The location is excellent with plenty to do and see. Avoid the elephant camp visit proposed by the hotel since we spent most of the time on the elephant walking along a road. The worst thing about the hotel is the food. The nightly buffet is very average and you need to get their early to have a choice. The breakfast is poor, a rather uninspiring start to the day. After 5 days, we were ready to leave.

We stayed for two nights at the River Kwai Village Hotel as part of a three day all inclusive tour. We were collected from our Bangkok hotel and taken by bus to Kanchanaburi. We were in a Mountain View Room which was very basic but clean and the bed was comfortable. A pool was right near our room and it was very refreshing with lots of sun lounges. When we went for a walk we found a much more upmarket pool area and two other accommodation buildings overlooking the river. If we'd known these were available we would have paid for an upgrade to enjoy the view but really there was nothing wrong with the room we had. There was also accommodation on the river which were sort of raft rooms. The meals were included and they were buffet style and not very spicy to cater for tourists but a bit bland for my liking. Breakfast was fine. We were taken on a long boat on the river to some caves and waterfalls and the guide was a lovely girl who was very helpful. We also had elephant rides and went to the railway, the Thai Burma Railway Museum, the Bridge over the River Kwai and the Allied War Cemetery in Kanchanaburi. It was a great three days and would be enjoyable for anyone with an interest in the history of our POWs and what they endured on the Thai Burma Railway.

We stayed at this hotel in March with a group of friends. Our room was a bit stale and the shower and batthroom a bit smelly but we got used of it after a while. better rooms would be down on the river which I think would be exceptional.

The hotel grounds were excellent and a place to relax. The pool was most enjoyable. Breakfast was also excellent with plenty of choices. Dinner at the hotel was very enjoyable but it was the only place to eat as there were no other restaurants nearby.

Plenty of other activities to do also.

Had a massage which was very good and not expensive. It certainly releived the aches and pains after lots of walking during the day. the masseuse was very good, gentle where necessary and would recommend you have one at the hotel.

Just returned from 1 night stay at River Kwai Village. We stayed in the Raftel room and overall was an enjoyable stay.

The room was clean and came with the basic toiletries. My hushand and myself loved the scenic view from our room. For people who are squeamish about insects might be appalled to find little spiders (found a few on the table in the room),many lizards at night and toads. For us, it was just part and parcel of 'jungle experience' and great to expose our kids.

We also enjoyed the day trip to the museum and hellfire pass very much. Was a very insightful trip to history although our kids might find it difficult to appreciate. However, they still enjoyed the trip/walk. For that, insect repellant is a must as there are many mosquitoes (the hotel room does come with a insect repellant too but don't think it is complimentary).

The kids especially enjoyed the elephant ride and bamboo raft. For the elephant ride, it was just around an open field and so some might feel cheated. For us, it was just as interesting (since it was our 1st truely elephant ride) and the kids loved to feed the elephants at the end. It was really hot and having a hat would really be good.

The hospitality from the guides and the staff in River Kwai Village was good.

One down side was the slide at the swimming pool. It looked dirty (full of dead leaves/flowers) and so our kids didn't use it.

The other down side was our trip to the lava cave and water fall. We thought that was a rather waste of time and would go instead to the tiger temple.
